Two arrested for Cape Town hijacking

A Queenstown Public Order Policing Unit that was deployed at Dutywa in King William’s Town have arrested two suspects in connection with a hijacking in Cape Town recently.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha, the suspects, aged 32 and 34, were found in possession of four unlicensed pistols with the serial numbers scratched off.

“They were also found in possession of 42 live rounds of ammunition,” he said in a statement.

The suspects have been charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of fire arms and possession of ammunition.

Manatha said that the firearms were sent for ballistic testing to determine if they were used in other crimes in the country.

“We strongly suspect and believe that they had been used in the commission of crimes around the country.”

The car they were driving was hijacked at Nyanga Township, Cape Town.

The suspects will appear before the Dutywa Magistrate Court on Wednesday.
