Terror Attack: British Parliament on lockdown after knife attack; alleged assailant shot
According to Metro UK, an alleged assailant was shot by police outside Britain’s Parliament compound Wednesday, a lawmaker said, placing the building on lockdown in what authorities initially treated as a “terrorist incident.” Full details of the incident were not immediately clear.
Separately, a car struck pedestrians at a nearby bridge, leading investigators to explore whether it was part of a coordinated action. “We are treating this as a terrorist incident until we know otherwise,” said a Twitter message from London Metropolitan Police.
Earlier, Britain’s security agency MI5 said it was not able to determine yet if there were terrorist links. David Lidington, a member of Parliament, said a police officer was stabbed and the suspected assailant was shot.
