South Africa President Zuma condemns his citizens for attacking Nigerians, others

South Africa President, Jacob Zuma, has condemned acts of violence by his citizens on Nigerians and non-nationals.

A statement by his office Friday morning said non-citizens indeed contribute immensely to the development of South Africa.

It said Zuma will not condone the attacks which he warned must stop.

“Many citizens of other countries living in South Africa are law abiding and contribute to the economy of the country positively.

“It is wrong to brandish all non-nationals as drug dealers or human traffickers.

“The threats and counter-threats on social media must stop,” the statement added.

Anti-immigrant protesters are lamenting high unemployment rate, with foreigners being accused of taking jobs from citizens and getting involved in crime.

Citizens in Pretoria are set to march against foreigners on Friday.

Domestic media are also reporting fresh vandalism and acts of violence in the Atteridgeville area west of the capital.

Dozens of stores in Pretoria owned by foreigners have been looted in the past one week.
