See How A Container Killed 1, Injured 2 in a Building In Lagos
At least one person was on Thursday confirmed dead while two others sustained varying degrees of injury in Lagos State when a container attached to a trailer fell on a building in Ijora area of the state.
Our correspondent gathered that the tragedy occurred between 4.00 and 5.00am on Thursday during a heavy downpour in the area.
Witnesses said the container slipped off the trailer parked around 7Up area of Ijora and fell on the structure.
It was learnt that officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, (LASEMA), and others were on ground to rescue people trapped in the building, while the area was condoned off to prevent a crowd in the area.
The Lagos State Ambulance Services, (LASAMBUS) is said to have conveyed three people injured to the hospital, while one of them died on the way to the hospital.
Confirming the incident , the general manager, LASEMA, Michael Akindele said his men were on ground to ensure that proper rescue and evacuation was carried out.
According to him, the agency received a distress call concerning a container that fell at Sifax container terminal located at 110/112 Ijora road near Ijora bus stop at about 5:30am on Thursday.
He said, “Investigation conducted by the Agency’s Emergency Response Team, ERT at the incident scene revealed that the container fell on adjoining illegal shanties due to operational error during relocation of the containers within the premises overnight.”
“Further assessment revealed that operational activities were carried out without flood lights and operational safety procedures. Two adult males sustained bodily injury and have been treated by LASAMBUS. Unfortunately one adult female was taken out and confirmed dead by the Agency.”
“She is identified as Ezinne. The corpse has been handed over to the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit, SEHM.”
