Religious crisis in Abdu Gusau Polytechnic, Zamfara. President reacts
A religious crisis broke out at the Abdu Gusau Polytechnic, Tatata Mafara in Zamfara State and eight persons have been reported killed. According to eyewitnesses, a christian student in the university made a blasphemous statement about Prophet Muhammad and this got some muslim student infuriated. They beat him up beyond recognition. On seeing what was going on, Tajudeen another muslim man intervened and took the christian student to the hospital.
This singular act of kindness got the student angry and they went to Tajudeen’s home and burnt it down, killing eight people in the process.
The governor of the state Abdulaziz Yari immediately placed a 12 hour curfew in the community to control the situation. The deceased have been buried according to islamic rites.
The President this morning reacted to the religious crisis that broke out yesterday. He said, ‘ I received news of the mob killings in Zamfara with great dismay. It is barbaric and unacceptable. I assure that the law will take its course. My prayers are with the families of the victims. Under my watch we will work to ensure that there is no place for violence in the name of religion, ethnicity, or in any guise whatsoever.’
