images (8)New Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has initiated a war of words with his bitter rival Jose Mourinho, just days after arriving in Manchester.

The two managers take charge of their cities rivals, with Guardiola at Manchester City and Mourinho across town at Manchester United.

With both managers in the Premier League, the rivalry between two of the biggest coaches in the world will almost certainly ignite once again, and Guardiola has already stoked the fire ahead of the new season.

The former Barcelona boss sat down with influential City fan Noel Gallagher to discuss the club’s prospects ahead of the campaign.

Gallagher grilled Guardiola with a question about “whether he would bother coming if City missed out on the Champions League”, and the Spaniard had a smart answer.

“I wasn’t worried.

“I was coming to Manchester, I was never going to stay at home. But we are not in the Champions League, we have to be clear. That situation is now in this moment better than Manchester United’s though.”

A straight answer like this is sure to go down well with the Oasis front-man and the rest of the City faithful, but it may not go down as well in the red half of Manchester.

United will miss out on Champions League football this season after finishing fifth last time out, losing out to City on goal difference, who finished fourth.

With Mourinho officially taking over United yesterday, we can expect a reply to Guardiola’s comments soon.
