Old Woman ‘Comes Back From The Dead’ After 40 Years

An 82-year-old woman who was thought to be dead for more than 40 years suddenly appeared on her daughter’s doorstep ‘back from the grave’. Relatives believed the pensioner had died from a snake bite and had performed her “last rites” before throwing her body into a river.

But the woman identified only by the name Vilasa revealed that she was not killed by the snake bite and had only lost consciousness, according to the Times of India.

She said she could no longer remember who she was when she was rescued by fishermen, and she lived away from her family for the next 40 years until her memory suddenly started to return.

Her story began in 1976 when she went to work in the fields outside her home in Inayatpur village in Majahwan town, in northern India’s Uttar Pradesh State.

She was tragically bitten by a black Cobra and rushed to a traditional healer in the nearby village.

However, he was unable to help her, and she was pronounced dead after which her body was taken to the Ganga river where the last rites were performed by immersing her apparently dead body in the water.

Her grief-stricken family then returned home, leaving her body to float off downstream where it was found by local boatmen who realised she was still alive, and took her to a village temple where she regained consciousness with no memory of her previous life. As a result, she remained at the temple.

But recently she started to regain her memory and that allowed her family to be tracked down.

Vilasa’s two daughters – Ram Kumari and Munni – told local media of their surprise when they saw her suddenly standing outside their home.

Her eldest daughter Ram Kumari said that the man who had attended her original funeral had heard her story and had realised what had happened.
