Germany destroy Brazil in World Cup semi-final
Germany eased into the World Cup Final by humiliating
hosts Brazil 7-1, with Miroslav Klose getting amongst the goals to
become the most prolific scorer in the tournament’s history.

Die Mannschaft ran riot via braces from Man of the Match
Toni Kroos and Andre Schurrle, and strikes from Thomas Muller, Sami
Khedira and Poland-born Klose, who netted a record 16th goal at the
showpiece – going one better than retired Brazilian legend Ronaldo.

Oscar pulled one back in stoppage time as the Samba Boys – who
previously hadn’t lost a competitive game at home since 1975 – narrowly
avoided surpassing their heaviest ever defeat, a 6-0 loss at the hands
of Uruguay in 1920.

Germany will face either Argentina or Netherlands in the event
decider in Rio on Sunday, with the latter pair meeting in Sao Paulo on

Joachim Low’s men started the contest at Estadio Mineirao brightly,
as an unmarked Muller tapped in a Kroos corner 11 minutes in for his
fifth goal of the tournament, the same tally he achieved at South Africa

The Europeans then effectively killed the tie by finding the net four
times in a seven-minute period before the half-hour mark. Klose, Kroos
(2) and Khedira did the damage to give their side a sensational 5-0 lead
at the interval.

The second stanza was a closer affair, as Germany goalkeeper Manuel
Neuer was forced to make a number of saves to deny efforts from Oscar
and Paulinho. However, substitute Schurrle, on for Klose, added a sixth
goal with a calm finish in the area in the 69th minute.

Schurrle completed his double 10 minutes later with a thunderous
drive on the angle as the ball flew in off the underside of the bar.

A deflated Brazil managed to pull one back at the death, as Oscar
beat Neuer from close range moments after Mesut Ozil wasted a one-on-one
opportunity at the other end.
