So it looks like Cristiano Ronaldo’s best efforts aren’t going to be quite enough.
The Portuguese superstar is doing all he can to haul Real Madrid up to the top of La Liga on the last day of the season, and scored twice in his team’s game against Deportivo La Coruna.
Ahead of the final round of games in Spain, Madrid were a single point behind Barcelona, who were up against Granada.
Ronaldo looked like a man possessed as he first gave Madrid the upper hand with just seven minutes gone, before doubling Madrid’s lead with a header before the half-hour mark.
He then almost rounded off his hat-trick in the most glorious style imaginable. The 31-year-old ran on to a long through ball over the top, gloriously placed the ball under his spell with an immaculate first touch before getting his shot off in one fluid movement.
