Army Warns Of Boko Haram Plot To Poison Water Sources
The Nigerian Army has warned of a fresh plot by the dreaded Boko Haram sect to poison water sources in north-eastern states already besieged by the terrorists.

Adekunle Afolasade in a press statement made available to LEADERSHIP Weekend yesterday described the threat by the fleeing Boko Haram insurgents as a sign of desperation on their part and called on the people in the north-east to always be vigilant.
“The command wishes to inform the general public that Boko Haram terrorists plan to buy a large quantity of rat poison and other poisonous items from markets in Nigeria to enable them poison water sources, particularly in the north-eastern states.
“The Nigerian Army Theater Command, therefore calls on the general public, particularly the market men and women vending such items to be vigilant.
The statement also urged citizens of the region to report any person buying large quantities of such commodities to security agencies.
The major re-iterated the determination of the Nigerian Army along with the support of other security agencies to defeat the Boko Haram insurgency in the country.
Besides, several Muslim worshipers are feared killed during the launch of a Friday mosque near old hajj camp in Jambutu area of Yola yesterday.
The blast which occurred at about 2:00 pm on Friday, shortly after the commencement of the Juma’at prayers shook the town as it was heard across Jimeta, the administrative capital of Yola.
Eyewitness accounts revealed that the bomb was detonated by a young suicide bomber in the vicinity of the mosque.
“A young man snuck into the vicinity of the mosque immediately after the prayer commenced and detonated a bomb leading to massive casualty,” the eye witness said.
A member of the first aid group of Jama’atul Bid’a Wa Ikhamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS) Mallam Yusuf Osama said the suicide bomber detonated his explosives shortly after the Friday prayers commenced.
“It is a gory scenario, many people were killed in the blast and we are busy evacuating dead bodies and injured victims to hospitals.
“The suicide bomber wanted to get access to the main bowl of the mosque so that he would cause massive havoc, but before he reached the building, the bomb detonated.
“The decapitated head of the suicide bomber was lying among the mangled bodies of the victims,” Osama noted.
Another eyewitness who pleaded for anonymity said a batch of soldiers drafted to the scene opened fire on the crowd instantly killing about three people.
“When the first batch of soldiers came, they started beating people with horse whips which caused uproar as the worshipers retaliated by pelting the soldiers with stones and the soldiers fired shots leading to the instant death of many people,” the source said.
Confirming the incident, public relations officer Adamawa State Police Command, DSP Othman Abubakar said the attack was carried out by a suicide bomber even though he could not confirm the casualty figures.
