A clash between the Igbo people in Akokwa community and Hausa people in the same community have left no fewer than 6 people dead and several others injured. The community is in Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State.
According to the Sate commissioner of Police, Taiwo Lakanu preliminary investigations have revealed that the crash started after an Hausa man who happens to be a security guard killed a woman. They had an intense quarrel and the man killed the woman with a shovel. When the woman’s friend tried to intervene he killed her too. On discoverying the magnitude of his crime he committed suicide.
Taiwo Lakanu said that this lead angry indigenes to attack the Northerners in the area leading to the death of three other people.
He said that policemen have been deployed to the area to prevent further breakdown of law and order.
The state government has also called on the indigenes to remain calm and as security agents fully restore peace to the area.
