4 Dead As Bombers Blast Selves At Maiduguri Military Checkpoint
Four suspected Boko Haram suicide bombers driving into Maiduguri, Borno State capital in a heavily wired car yesterday got killed as their explosives went off near a military checkpoint at the city’s main entrance, security sources said.
A military source said the three suicide bombers might have changed their minds and stepped out of the car to detonate themselves when they noticed that soldiers were conducting thorough checks at the checkpoint.
Witnesses said the wired car was a Volkswagen Golf car marked KANO FGE 283 XA, was painted in the usual taxi green and yellow.
A civilian dead casualty was recorded, while one other person who identified himself as brother to the car owner was arrested in connection with the explosion.
A search of the vehicle revealed more unexploded bombs that were later safely defused by the officials of the explosive ordnance Department.
Recovered from the vehicle were Suicide bomb Vest containing 12 IEDS.S, two GSM hand sets and a cash of N1,150.
