TWO BROTHERS SENTENCE TO COMBINE 30 YEARS IN PRISON WITH HARD LABOUR FOR RAPING A 12-YEAR OLD GIRL
In Delta State two blood brothers have been sentence to a total of 30 years in prison for raping a 12-year old girl. Chukwuedo Mohaga a 30-year-old man was sentence to 7 years for conspiracy to commit rape and 14years with hard labour for the substantive offence of rape. Amaechi Mohaga was handed 7 years for count one bordering on conspiracy to commit rape and 2years imprisonment with hard labour for indecent assault on the girl. The ruling was carried out by Justice Marcel Okoh of the Delta State High Court in Akwukwu-Igbo, Oshimili North Local Government Area.
The prosecution led by an Assistant Chief State Counsel from the State Ministry of Justice, A. P. Popo, had told the court:
“The two brothers, Chukwedo and Amaechi Mohaga, had, on or about June 6, 2015, at Ibusa, conspire and executed their act of conspiracy by raping the 12-years old girl (name withheld), thereby, committed an offence punishable under sections 516 and 358 of the Criminal Code Laws of Delta State of Nigeria, 2006.”
The two brothers abducted the girl on her way to buy food stuff for her mother. They took the girl to a classroom in a primary school and forcefully took turns in raping her.
The girl narrated her experience
“My mother sent me to buy okro and I went to a small market but I did not see okro to buy, but somebody directed me to one Aunty Nkem’s house but I could not locate the house.
It was at that point I saw the two men in a compound eating and I asked them if they knew Aunty Nkem’s house and they offered to lead me there.
But on our way, one of them brought out a knife and dragged me inside the primary school and they raped me in turns.”
